Interior Decorating Is Going Green

Today the color green is in style and it is fun and easy to decorate with. Green makes people aware of the need to conserve life on earth. It is a great way to decorate as well. Here are some things that you can do to go green.

For your wooden furniture or others constructed from natural materials, consider using antiques or used second-hand pieces. By doing this you will be saving some money, in the latter case, while also reducing the depletion of natural resources by not creating any more demand for products made using such materials. On the other hand, if you must buy your furniture new, avoid those made from toxic materials. Instead opt for pieces made form organic materials, wool batting, renewable woods and latex foam.

When choosing your flooring you have several options to consider. If you already have hardwood floors don’t cover them, instead refurbish them. If you still want a different look on the floor then try bamboo flooring, cork, stone, linoleum, reclaimed wood, metal tiles, or recycled glass. Avoid putting carpeting down as the expenses can really add up once you buy padding too. Carpet can hold dust and mites as well as accumulate mildew and this is not healthy for you.

If you have a couple of places that need covered you can choose an area rug. When selecting an area rug pick one that is made from 100% natural fibers. This will help in your go-green mission. You can even find area rugs made from recyclable and even biodegradable materials

For the walls you want to avoid paints that are high in VOC, or volatile organic compounds. These paints release a gas that is toxic and can lead to dangerous complications for those who live in the home. Before buying paint read the labels to make sure that the paint you buy is eco-friendly.

When it comes to buying bedding or bed linen you want to go with organic cotton. This type of cotton is a natural fiber so it is free from synthetic chemicals that can be dangerous. Make sure the bedding you choose is treated with a non-toxic water based dye. Don’t choose bedding that is treated with formaldehyde. Mattresses should be made from latex rubber.

When it comes to making a bathroom eco-friendly there are a couple of things you can do. One is to purchase urinals that do not require water. You may also want to find a dual-flush toilet that conserves water.

Furniture should be vintage and you can find this almost any second hand shop. This will give your home an elegant feeling. Buy accessories that are multi-functional, meaning that you can use them in different rooms when you want to change the look. Look for companies that specialize in eco friendly furniture. This will help the environment and help your family.

Natural Home Design has never been so easy with these natural bamboo rugs.
