Energy resources on the earth are getting scarcer and scarcer and finding alternative sources is essential. It’s more urgent now than ever, and solar power is coming more and more to the forefront as a premier source of renewable energy. And solar power is gaining popularity as a source of home energy. Thanks to all the research and development, it is now accessible to anyone. An average family can have their own home-made system, meeting their energy needs. It’s definitely not rocket science. The materials used in putting these solar panels together, can be bought in the local hardware shop. And for anyone with a reasonable amount of DIY ability, it’s not a huge task to build one’s own system. All required work could be completed, with the final connection to the supply being done by an electrician. Naturally, some places are more suitable to the production of solar power, because of the amount of sunshine. But solar power does not require blazing sunsine, all the time. It’s less than you would think. And you can store in batteries any excess energy produced when sunshine levels are high. It would be possible to build an energy-producing home solar system for $200 or less. That is a pleasant surprise to the many who have gone down this road. So you can absolutely rule out cost as a prohibitive factor. The take-up of solar power by families is increasing all the time, as it becomes de-mystified, and because the entry costs are now within reach. You may have thought that it was necessary to introduce solar home power while designing, or constructing a house, but that’s not the case. As well as storing the extra energy that is produced but not needed, you have the option of selling it back to the electricity company! They will be more than happy to buy it, and you can watch your electricity meter turn back for a change! The advantages of a solar home energy system are numerous. I think the main ones are the economic aspects – both the low entry-cost and the savings that can be achieved. You could see an 80% (or even 100%) reduction in your electricity bill. Numbers like these are hard to argue against, especially in times of economic difficulty. If you get plugged in to your home solar energy system, you are of course helping in the fight against global warming (and helping reduce the carbon emissions). As for the maintenance of a system like this, it will require ver little. Solar power has been around for a long time and its a proven system of electricity generation. Its now more accessible than ever for the average family and I believe that this trend will continue to increase.
